Golf in the Dark with the Friends of the Parks

The annual Youth Scholarship Fundraiser.

The Friends of the Des Plaines Park District, a volunteer organization dedicated to providing access to recreational activities for Des Plaines youth, is hosting its 2nd annual Golf In The Dark event on August 29 at the Lake Park Golf Course, 1015 Howard Avenue in Des Plaines. The event is a fundraiser, with proceeds benefitting their Youth Scholarship Fund. This summer, that fund helped more than 50 kids attend a summer camp at the park district. “These are great kids who otherwise would not be able to afford the cost of camp”, said Paul Cathey, Superintendent of Parks and Golf for the district, and a member of the organization. “The Friends of the Parks has been able to provide them with a summer full of healthy outdoor activities.”

Golf In The Dark is an evening that includes dinner, a silent auction, raffles, prizes, and 9-holes of Glow Golf on the Lake Park course. A post event party is planned at Tap House Grill in Metropolitan Square in downtown Des Plaines. The event costs $50 per person, or $180 for a foursome. More information is on the Des Plaines Park District website, DPParks.org. Anyone who wants to help support the Friends is welcome, and businesses can also become sponsors of the event. For details, call Debbie Hermanson, at 847-391-5089.
