Intoxicated Man Beats Up 65-Year-Old Mother, Family Dog: Des Plaines PD

DES PLAINES, IL — A resident is accused of battering his 65-year-old mother and the family dog during a domestic incident last week. Sean Barnes, 39, was charged with felony aggravated battery and remains in the Cook County Jail with his next court date scheduled for Tuesday.
According to Des Plaines police, the incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. Feb. 18, in the 300 block of Elk Boulevard. Officers arrived at the home, where Barnes reportedly had returned home visibly upset and appeared to be intoxicated.
During an interaction between Barnes and the victim, police say he became violent and began attacking the family dog. When the victim intervened to stop the attack on the animal, police said Barnes began striking her in the back of the head with a closed fist. When the victim fell to the ground, he reportedly continued to punch and kick his mother before leaving the residence.

Police located Barnes and took him into custody. He was taken to the station for processing.
