Brave Passenger Disarms Gunman on Megabus

The hero was traveling from Chicago to Minneapolis to visit his son when he stood up to an irate man who fired a gun on the Megabus.

After hearing a loud popping noise as their Megabus rolled west on I-90 late Tuesday, passengers encountered an irate, gun-wielding man aboard their bus. He’s now in custody after Kenneth Smith and other passengers confronted him and wrestled him to the ground.

Police said he fired a gun in the bathroom of a Megabus headed for Minneapolis late Tuesday night, the Daily Herald reports. No one was injured in the shooting.

Smith, a passenger on board the bus, told the Chicago Tribune, that the gunman was harassing the bus driver. Smith confronted him and was able pull the gun away from the man as other passengers held him down.

“I was scared, he was being real irate, it was a really scary situation,” said Smith, 28, who was traveling from Chicago to Minneapolis to visit his 6-year-old son. “If he let one gunshot off, there was nothing stopping him from taking another shot.”

State troopers boarded the bus at the Des Plaines Oasis on I-90 and arrested the man. He was in custody at the Des Plaines Police Department Wednesday morning. He was being uncooperative and charges were pending.
