Man Found Dead In Water At Lake Opeka: Des Plaines Police

Police said park patrons tried to help before firefighters arrived, but the 61-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

DES PLAINES, IL — A 61-year-old Rosemont man was found dead in the water at Lake Opeka Tuesday night, according to Des Plaines police.

Des Plaines police officers responded at about 8:14 p.m. June 10 to a report of a man floating in the water at Lake Opeka.

Park patrons were already at the scene and tried to help, including one person who entered the water to bring the man to shore, police said.

Des Plaines Fire Department personnel attempted to render aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified him as Jorge Ramirez-Contreras, of Rosemont.

The investigation is in its early stages, but investigators do not suspect foul play at this time, police said.
