Manufacturers unveiled new, more affordable electric cars during the 2026 Chicago Auto Show

The Chicago Auto Show, which started on February 7, 2026, is the biggest and most well-known auto show in North America.
The Chicago Auto Show has been the longest auto show in North America since it started in 1901. The Chicago Automobile Trade Organization, a group of Chicagoland new automobile dealers, has been hosting the event since 1935. The Tesla Cyber truck and Tesla Cybercab vehicle was the centerpiece of the 2026 Auto Show in Chicago.

The auto show featured a large number of electric vehicles (EVs) from automakers such as BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, Kia, Lucid, Nissan, and Volkswagen. The majority of them provided test drives. Test drives of the Tesla Cyber truck were not offered.

Viewing and testing a number of EVs, such as the 2026 BMW , the 2026 Cadillac Escalade IQ, the Ford F-150 Lightning Switchgear, and more contemporary models like the Lucid Air, was exciting.

In 2026, during the Chicago Auto Show the Illinois Secretary of State's office provided driving licence services to anyone who wanted their documentation updated. Nobody needs an appointment.

"The Chicago Auto Show is a cornerstone event for the city, and we are excited to open our doors again this winter welcoming attendees to experience the latest vehicles, technology and activations," organizer stated.

On Friday, February 6, McCormick Place hosted a black-tie charity event called First Look for Charity. Since its founding, First Look for Charity has given $60 million to charity organizations in the Chicago area. There was great music, delectable food and beverages, and a chance to win a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox or a 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Hybrid. This year, visitor tickets are slightly more expensive.

Making the auto show interactive by allowing guests to sit in cars and look at the engines was another goal. There are additional displays and unique elements that highlight vintage and customized cars.
Chicago Auto Show General Manager Jennifer Morand said the expansion of indoor and outdoor driving experiences reflects changing consumer expectations. Organizers are increasingly prioritizing opportunities for visitors to interact directly with vehicles, rather than relying on display stands or press-driven unveilings
