Maryville Denies Safety Complaints

Maryville Behavioral Health Hospital officials are denying claims that working conditions at the center are unsafe, as nurses are claiming they are.

Maryville Academy denies that working conditions are unsafe  at its Behavioral Health Hospital, the Daily Herald reports. The Illinois Nurses Association recently  filed an unfair labor practice complaint against Maryville with the National Labor Relations Board.
The Des Plaines hospital provides inpatient psychiatric care for children and young adults. Hospital officials released a statement this week saying the safety of the staff at the hospital is as important to them as the safety of patients, the publication reports.
The nurses union said the psychiatric hospital hasn't negotiated with nurses over mandatory bargaining issues this year, such as staffing, the publication reports. They said understaffing has led to unsafe working conditions.
Maryville officials said they are working with the union, and have met with it 10 times. They are scheduled to negotiate again on September 5.
