Morton Grove Honors MCC for Efforts to Raise Environmental Awareness

Muslim Community Center (MCC) was unanimously chosen by the Morton Grove Economic Development Commission to receive the 2025 Award

The Muslim Community Center Chicago received recognition for its exceptional work in creating a green and eco-friendly mosque.

The Muslim Community Center of Chicago (MCC) was unanimously chosen by the Morton Grove Economic Development Commission to receive the 2025 Greener and Greener Morton Grove Award in the Religious Organization category for its outstanding efforts to promote and implement environmentally sustainable practices in the community.
On Tuesday, April 22, during the Village Board meeting in the Council Chambers at Village Hall, Mayor Daniel DeMaria and the Village Board of Trustees presented the award.
Along with MCC President Masood Bijapuri and other team members, Dr. Saeeda, the MCC Green Team In-Charge, and her team were present for the celebration.
The Muslim Community Center, Chicago's oldest Muslim organization, is in charge of managing the day-to-day operations of multiple mosques throughout the city. The organization operates a sizable community center in the Chicago suburbs where, similar to other mosques, a significant number of Muslims congregate for prayers. However, what sets this center apart from others is that, for the first time in American history, it has taken the initiative to raise community awareness about the need to make mosques more ecologically friendly as part of the Green Mosque Campaign.

In Chicago and throughout the United States, eco-friendly mosques are becoming more and more popular. The Muslim Community Center Chicago has started a program to make mosques more ecologically friendly, with a focus on using less water and fewer plastic food plates and other everyday items.

In order for the environmentally friendly program to be effectively finished through mutual consultation, scholars, the City Council, the Ministry of Health, universities, and other Islamic institutions are all involved in the program.
After the environmentally friendly mosque program, it is intended that other Islamic centers will be included in this project.
