National Bike to School Day Celebrated

Biking and walking to school were encouraged by Apollo School and Maine Township. Nice tradition!

Here, Maine Township Supervisor Carol A. Teschky, right, greets some of the bike riders from Apollo School (East Maine Dist. 63) as they get started out for Bike to School Day on May 6.

The national event celebrates the benefits of bicycling and walking. Students, parents, community leaders and teachers from Apollo School have participated in the local event for three years that takes place along Dee Road north of Golf Road to the school.

Trophies were awarded for the best decorated bike, scooter or skateboard.
