New 9/11 Memorial To Be Dedicated at Patriot Day Ceremony Sunday
Honor Guards, Color Guards, keynote by U.S. Navy Commander and Singing of National Anthem all part of the event.

As the country observes the 10th year since the 9/11 tragedy in New York, Pennsylvania and the Pentagon, Des Plaines will remember those who were killed in a ceremony outside the Civic Center, 1420 Miner St., at 8 a.m. Sunday.
“We will never forget the individuals who died that day and the families shattered by the tragic events.” . “Our city feels that it is extremely important to continue the tradition of preserving the events and memories of this day and to pay homage to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”
Members of the Des Plaines Fire and Police Departments, American Legion Post #36 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2992 will host the event, which will also be a dedication and unveiling ceremony for the new 9/11 Memorial downtown, according to the press release.

The 9/11 Memorial includes a piece of a steel beam from the World Trade Center.
Eilken, master of ceremonies, said he has been impressed by how the community had embraced and supported the event.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2992 and American Legion Post #36 donated funds for the mounting of the World Trade Center artifact onto a granite slab.
Peter Troost Monument Company donated the granite slab, Lurvey’s Landscape & Design, Rebel’s Trophies, Renew Autobody and Des Plaines’ Fire and Public Works Departments also made contributions.
The Patriot Day Ceremony is expected to last about 30 minutes, and parking is available in the Metropolitan Square parking garage.
