Oakton to host Latinx College and Resource Expo Sept. 12
Oakton will host a free bilingual family event, featuring workshops, free food, and prizes Sept. 12. The event is open to all.

The Oakton Community College Career and Transfer Center will host a free Latinx College and Resource Expo from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, on Student Street at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road.
Attendees at this bilingual family event will have the opportunity to attend workshops, enjoy free food, win prizes and meet with representatives from Latinx-friendly colleges. The event is open to all and registration is not required.
“This robust event will offer an opportunity for the Latinx community at Oakton and the surrounding districts to make valuable connections all under one roof,” Transfer Coordinator Brian Bacon says. “In addition, this provides college-bound Latinx students with specialized opportunities. Attendees will also have the opportunity to win giveaways including Amazon gift cards and Oakton apparel.”

Workshop topics include Oakton services and resources, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), scholarship search and resources for undocumented students.
Attendees also will have the opportunity to speak with representatives from schools such as Calumet College of St. Joseph, Dominican University, Ferris State University, Lake Forest College, Loyola University Chicago, Marquette University, National Louis University, Northeastern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, University of Chicago, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of St. Francis and Western Michigan University.
