Oakton to host performances of 'The Vagina Monologues' Feb. 13-15
Oakton will host benefit performances of "The Vagina Monologues" that will support services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Oakton Community College will host three benefit performances of “The Vagina Monologues” at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 13-15, at the Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.
Presented by Oakton Performing Arts and the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, the staged readings of Eve Ensler’s powerful masterpiece will raise funds for Northwest CASA and Apna Ghar to provide services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The award-winning play is based on interviews with over 200 women and celebrates women’s sexuality and strength with humor, honesty and grace.
The performances are among approximately 6,000 events held annually across the globe throughout the month of February as part of the V-Day College Campaign to stop violence against women and girls.

As part of the campaign, attendees are encouraged to bring feminine hygiene products that will be donated to benefit incarcerated women. Donation boxes will be available on show days outside the theater entrance.
“‘The Vagina Monologues’ is a groundbreaking work of political theater and a transformative experience for performers and audiences alike,” director Simi Khurana says. “I’m proud to be associated with this play as it has given a voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public. The play helps to bring a deeper consciousness to what it means to be a woman.”
