Oakton hosts productions of "A Streetcar Named Desire" March 7-17

"A Streetcar Named Desire," will be presented March 7-10 and 14-17 at Oakton Community College's Footlik Theater.

Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer Prize winning play, “A Streetcar Named Desire,” will be presented March 7-10 and 14-17 at Oakton Community College’s Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines.

In “A Streetcar Named Desire,” unmarried former schoolteacher Blanche DuBois seeks refuge with her sister, Stella and brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski, in a rundown New Orleans tenement after losing her family’s home in Mississippi to creditors.

The play had a long and successful run on Broadway and was made into a film starring Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando.

Opening night is 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 7, with a special $5 preview. Performances are also scheduled 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 8, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9 and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 10. The play concludes its run at Oakton the following week with 7:30 p.m. shows Thursday-Saturday, March 14-16 and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17.
