Oakton’s art museum to showcase latest acquisitions March 2-23

Oakton Community College’s Koehnline Museum of Art is proud to display its new acquisitions. More than 50 works of art will go on display starting Thursday, March 2, at the exhibition “Gems from the Koehnline: New Acquisitions,” at the college’s Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road. The free display runs through Thursday, March 23. The public is invited to an opening night reception from 5 to 8 p.m.

This exhibit showcases distinguished 20th-century masters including abstract expressionists Joseph Meert (1905-1989) and Ezio Martinelli (1913-1980). The display also includes a rare 1926 portrait by Chicago artist Gregory Orloff (1890-1981) and prints by Chicago artist John Himmelfarb (born 1946).

“Thanks to the generosity of private donors, the art collection at the Koehnline Museum of Art has dramatically expanded over recent years,” said Nathan Harapz, museum’s manager and curator. “We’re proud to display these pieces that help educate our students and share these inspiring works with the greater community.”
