Oakton’s ‘Speaker Showcase’ Dec. 3, Inspires and Entertains

Oakton students explore creative and informative styles of public speaking at "Speaker Showcase" Tuesday, Dec. 3.

If you like TED Talks and podcasts, you will enjoy an evening of the best and brightest of Oakton Community College’s student speeches. Students have spent hours practicing and researching their topics to provide a thoughtful and entertaining evening at “Speaker Showcase,” 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the college’s Footlik Theater, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines. The event, founded in 2008, is not only inspiring, but free and open to the public.

Led by showcase director and founder Bob Gynn, students will display skills on a spectrum of topics, from educational to inspirational to comical and deeply personal.

“This is a terrific end-of semester program providing gifted speech speakers with the special opportunity to share their talents with an audience outside of the traditional classroom setting,” Gynn says. “The showcase is also a way of training exceptional speakers – one of the top skills you can have for success in business and in life.”
