Oakton's Skokie campus to host free internship events Jan. 31

Oakton Community College has scheduled its spring internship information session and fair for Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Oakton Community College will hold its spring internship information session and fair on Wednesday, Jan. 31, Rooms P103-P104, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

Internship Coordinator Shannon McKenzie says studies indicate that internships are among the most important predictors of career success, allowing students to gain professional experience, build their résumés and explore careers.

“The real-world work experiences that Oakton internships provide can open doors to future employment,” she says. “I welcome students to bring their résumés and meet representatives from our partner businesses to learn more about the many opportunities available through Oakton’s internship program.”

Oakton’s internship program is seeking to fill approximately 75 internship positions with local companies in a variety of fields, including accounting, business, sales, marketing, drafting technology, manufacturing, graphic design, communications and politics/government. Most positions include compensation of $9-12 per hour. Internships are available only to Oakton students admitted into the internship program.

The day includes the following events:

  • Information Session (10:30-11 a.m.): Learn about the Oakton internship program, including benefits to students, eligibility requirements, application instructions and résumé and cover letter tips.
  • Internship Fair (11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.): Meet representatives from several of Oakton’s partner businesses to learn about internship opportunities.

The following organizations representing various fields will be participating in the fair:

  • Advanced VTech (automotive);
  • Burns & McDonnell (drafting technology);
  • Covenant Village of Northbrook (health and social sciences),
  • HRRC Screening Solutions (criminal justice/business/marketing)
  • ICM Properties (real estate/sales);
  • JB for Governor (political/government);
  • HeeYoung Kim State Farm Agency (business/marketing);
  • Photo Booth Time (photography/customer service/business);
  • U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (political/government);
  • SpeedPro Imaging (business/marketing);
  • Tax Wizard (accounting); and
  • UPS (human resources).

Attendance at the fair and information session is not required for students to apply to the internship program or to be considered for any potential internship position.
