From the mid-90s to mid-2000s, Imran Khan continued his struggle to make PTI a mainstream political party during the political instability, Martial Law and controversial National Reconciliation Ordinance that paved the way for Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan People’s Party and Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan PMLN to return to Politics in Pakistan.
Though popular himself, Imran Khan’s PTI got its first breakthrough on October 30, 2011 after a massive political rally at Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore.

Following the rally, the top brass of PPP, PMLN & other political leaders joined PTI after witnessing Asif Zardari’s (post Benazir Bhutto assassination) corrupt administration in the center and PMLN’s autocratic administration in Punjab (largest province of Pakistan).
Although, due to several factors, it failed to win a majority; during and after the 2013 election, PTI emerged as a major political party. Imran Khan’s anti-corruption campaign, demand for free/fair elections and system of equality became a ray of hope for millions of Pakistanis, mainly the youth.
