State Treasurer hosted Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Celebrated on May to recognize the history, contributions, and achievements of the Asian American

State Treasurer Mike Frerichs hosted and celebrated the Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month on Monday, May 07, 2018 at the Thompson Center, Chicago

Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which is celebrated every year on May to recognize the history, contributions, and achievements of the Asian American.

The master of ceremonies was Cate Cauguiran from ABC 7 who thanked the community members who have attended this event and she also thanks to the participants, special guests and guest speakers. 2nd District State Rep. Theresa Mah served as the keynote speaker for the program. The Star-Spangled Banner National Anthem of the United States of America sung by Soprano Marisa Buchheit. The Opening Speech was performed by State Treasurer Mike Frerichs.

Several honorees received awards for their outstanding commitment to the community, ranging from business leadership in education to volunteer work.

Special Award, was honored to Cate Cauguiran. Outstanding service in business award honored to Arun Sampanthavitat from Arun’s Thai restaurant. Clarita Santos, from BlueCross blue field honored with the Outstanding commitment in community services. Leo park from Northside college preparatory high school honored with the outstanding commitment in education. Grace Hou from woods fund Chicago honored with the outstanding service in leadership. Alex Han from SEIU healthcare Illinois & Indiana honored with the Outstanding Achievement in the workforce and Labor. Commissioner Josina Morita from Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago honored with the Outstanding Commitment as an Elected Official. Eugene Honda Announcer from the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Blackhawks honored with the Outstanding Achievement in Sportsmanship. The Closing remarks were performed by Cate Cauguiran.

At the end of the event color of guard present by marine leadership academy team. Numbers of Asian Community Members attended the event.
