United Airlines Employee Accused in Hit-and-Run That Killed Des Plaines Bicyclist

A 25-year-old Des Plaines man was killed Monday night while riding his bicycle by a hit-and-run driver who police have since been identified as a United Airlines employee who was driving a company car, the Daily Herald reports.

Jose Gomez was found unresponsive in the roadway at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Pennsylvania Avenue at about 9:40 p.m. Monday, according to the article. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital

A license plate fell off the car of the United Airlines employee, police said, and they were able to track the offender down, the newspaper reports. Daniel R. Wehr, 54, of Morton Grove, was arrested in connection with the crash and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury/death.
