Urdu Samaj of Chicago Performing Important Role to promote Urdu and its culture in Chicagoland connecting community together
Urdu Samaj of Chicago organized an ADABI NISHST AND MUSHAIRA by invited several prominent Urdu poets of Chicago to recite their poetry and ghazals. This program was presided by Dr. Aqeel Hashmi, Ex-Head Dept of Urdu, Osmania University, Hyderabad, program held at Faizaan Gourmet Grill, Hanover Park, Illinois on Saturday, January 12th, 2019.
Dr. Aqeel Hashmi (alias for Syed Hafeez Uddin Hussain) is a prominent literary person from Hyderabad known for his contribution in Urdu Language and Literature as a poet, orator, educator etc. He is a post graduate with Ph.D. in “Deccani Language”. His research work was on the well-known semi-historical story of Padamavat by Malik Mohammed Jhaesi, translated by Syed Mohammed Ishrati in “Deccani Language” titled “Matnavi Deepak Patang” in 1980. Before this, he held a post graduate diploma in paleography (Maq-too-ta Sha-na-si).
He served as a chairman board of studies and head of Urdu department, Osmania University, Hyderabad. Under his supervision and guidance, 10 Master of Philosophy and 5 PhD Scholars has completed their research work on various topics in Urdu Language and literature and received their degrees from Osmania University.

Dr. Aqeel Hashmi has immense passion for writing and reciting Urdu poetry specially, Hamd, Naath and others. He has published many research articles on various topics locally and globally. He is author of more than 30 published literary contributions in Urdu prose and poetry. He has received many awards on these literature works. He has received “Dabeer-e-Milat” from Hyderabad, “Imtiaz e Mir”, from Lucknow, Amir Khushro Award, from Hyderabad and Ghalib award from Ghalib Cultural cultural association, Bangalore and best teacher award for Andhra Pradesh (Telangana).
Dr. Aqeel Hashmi’s poetry narration was par excellence and diverse both in structure as well as in content. His poetry simply captivated the audience and was well appreciated. Poetry from various other prominent poets presented a selection of verses from various ghazals and nazms. The verses had glimpses of melancholy and spoke of beauty, peace, struggle and purpose of life. The poets impressed the audience with their unique style of language and joy with which they recited their poetry. The main purpose of conducting such programs was for developing the youth’s appreciation for literature, both Urdu and in their mother language.

Urdu Samaj of Chicago and their very supportive team have brilliantly organized the Mushaira, it’s a great service for the promotion of Urdu poetry, art and culture as such opportunities give young poets an amazing chance to present their poetry to large audience and get acknowledgment from renowned poets and critics
