Project Sticker Shock, a program developed by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission, and sponsored locally by Maine Community Youth Assistance Foundation, included posting reminders at 47 area retailers that it is illegal to provide alcohol to anyone under 21. More than 90 teen volunteers from Des Plaines, Niles and Park Ridge participated in the program.
At Prestige Liquors in Des Plaines, Rachael Erickson, a Maine West High School student, said that she was concentrating mostly on placing stickers on domestic cases of beer. "Kids are cheap," she said. "I don't think we have to worry about the imports so much."
