Whiz Kids: Brittany Collins is Making a Name For Herself On The Basketball Court

• Whiz Kid's Age: 14
• Whiz Kid's School: Maine West High School
• Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: Brittany is quickly being recognized as a standout athlete at Maine West as the only freshman on the varsity basketball  team, which is predominately made up of juniors and seniors. She's been playing the sport since the first grade when she began at Our Lady of Destiny's mini-camp and at the park district. She continued through middle school and also participated in Maine West's own summer and fall camp sessions. She recently scored 27 points in one game.
• Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness: Growing up in an athletic family Brittany has athleticism in her genes. Her parents both played basketball growing up and actually coached her and her sister's basketball teams in middle school (her sister is a sophomore at Maine West and plays on the varsity basketball team as well). While she's happily never suffered from a serious injury "not yet anyway," Brittany has had her share of bruises but it's worth it because her favorite thing about playing basketball "is the intensity of the game." She hopes to continue playing through college. Watch Brittany in action at her next game at Glenbrook North High School this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
