Woman Accused Of Headbutting Officer: Des Plaines Blotter

DES PLAINES, IL — An Evanston woman was charged with felony aggravated battery and resisting an officer after police reported she hit, kicked and headbutted officers investigating a crash.

The department's latest crime report also included a BMW driver who fled an attempted traffic stop, a warrant arrest and a driver charged with driving on a revoked license following a crash involving a pedestrian.

The following information comes from Des Plaines Police Department reports. An arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Those charged are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY TO A PEACE OFFICER

• Taylor A. Roberson, 25, of Evanston, was arrested following a crash investigation at 1:29 p.m. Sept. 28, in the 600 block of Oakwood Court. Officers initially responded to the 600 block of East Thacker Street, where a Kia Seltos reportedly struck a parked vehicle and left the scene. Officers found a Kia with damage consistent with the crash on Oakwood Court and encountered Roberson standing beside it. Roberson initially denied involvement and became upset when instructed to wait near the sidewalk, according to the report. Police reported Roberson slapped an officer's hands away, then approached again and struck his arm. After being handcuffed, Roberson kicked two officers and headbutted one in the face while they were helping her into a squad car. The Cook County State’s Attorney's Office approved two felony counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer and one felony count of resisting a peace officer. Roberson was also charged with misdemeanor failure to remain at the scene of a vehicle damage accident and ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Roberson was taken to a Cook County courthouse for a detention hearing.

WARRANT ARREST

• Jahnique M. Edwards, 25, of Des Plaines, was arrested at 12:51 p.m. Sept. 28, in the 600 block of Oakwood Court during the same crash investigation. Officers checked Edwards' identification and learned of a valid, extraditable warrant through the Cook County Sheriff's Police Department. Edwards was taken to the police station and later brought to a Cook County courthouse for a detention hearing. The report did not identify the underlying offense associated with the warrant.

DRIVING ON A REVOKED LICENSE

• Jermaine F. Crockett, 45, of Chicago, was arrested following a crash involving a pedestrian at 5:21 p.m. Sept. 28, in the 1000 block of East Oakton Street. Crockett was driving west in the outside lane when a pedestrian crossing north outside a crosswalk unexpectedly stepped in front of the vehicle, according to the report. The Des Plaines Fire Department responded, but the pedestrian declined medical attention. Officers learned Crockett's license had been revoked by the Illinois secretary of state. Crockett was charged with misdemeanor driving on a revoked license, cited and released with court information.

AGGRAVATED FLEEING OR ATTEMPTING TO ELUDE

• An officer attempted to stop a white BMW sedan at 2:12 a.m. Sept. 29, in the 1700 block of Rand Road after observing it leave a parking lot in the 600 block of Northwest Highway, accelerate on Seegers Road and turn southeast onto Rand Road. The driver continued at a high rate of speed after the officer activated emergency lights. The officer disengaged and turned off the lights. The BMW then went through a red light at Miner Street and Rand Road before entering the southbound Interstate 294 ramp. No arrest was reported.
