DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove will review a housing attainment study at its upcoming planning and zoning commission meeting. The study, led by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, aims to evaluate housing needs within the village and how different age groups, income levels and other demographics are affected by current housing conditions.
Per village documents, the study's Homes for a Changing Region team will share initial findings from their assessment. Members of the planning and zoning committee will discuss opportunities and challenges related to attainable housing in Downers Grove.
According to the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, "[t]he Homes for a Changing Region (Homes)" program helps municipalities identify solutions to their most pressing housing challenges, create a balanced mix of housing types, and serve the needs of multiple generations of residents and workers.
The program uses data analysis, community engagement and action plans to help municipality's identify housing needs and improve affordability.
Nearby communities who have partnered with Homes for a Changing Region include Elmhurst, Woodridge, Glendale Heights and Naperville.
During the Downers Grove Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, commissioners and residents will be able to ask questions raise additional concerns about housing.
The meeting will be held April 27 at 7 p.m. in Downers Grove Village Hall.
