Coroner Identifies Man Killed In Storm Sewer Entrapment In Downers Grove

One man was killed when he was trapped in a storm sewer he was working on in Downers Grove amid Monday's storm.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The DuPage County Coroner has identified the man who died after he was trapped in a storm sewer in Downers Grove as Ivan A. Perez, 33, of Pasadena, Texas.

His probable cause of death was ruled to be accidental drowning as toxicology results are pending.

Perez was one of two workers from Vortex Lining Systems who became trapped in the storm sewer in the 800 block of Curtiss Street Monday just before 1 p.m.

The other contractor was rescued roughly 200 feet from storm sewer entry point around 5 p.m. Monday and was taken to a local hospital in good condition.

Rescue efforts shifted to recovery efforts Monday night amid dangerous water conditions.

Perez's body was recovered Tuesday in the 5100 block of Washington Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is under investigation by OSHA, according to NBC.

DuPage County Coroner Judith Lukas shared the following statement Tuesday, "Our office would like to express our deepest condolences to Ivan Perez's family, friends, and coworkers."
