Armed Robbery Reported At Gas Station In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Police say an armed robbery took place at the Mobil gas station in Downers Grove.

Officers were called to the gas station at 2181 63rd St. around 10:30 p.m. on July 27 for a report of an armed robbery. An employee told them he had been sitting outside around 9:20 p.m. to let customers know a power outage had left the gas pumps unusable when he was approached by a man.

The man said, "I have a gun. Give me the money or I'll shoot you" and implied he was holding a gun at his right side.

Police say the employee went into the store with the man, who told the employee to "hurry up" while he removed around $600 from the store's cash register. The man also demanded cigarettes before fleeing the scene.

The suspect was described as a Black man in his early 20s, standing around 6 feet tall with a medium build. Police say he had medium-length blond dreadlocks and was last seen wearing a black medical mask, a hooded sweatshirt and black pants.
