Nomination Petition Packets Available As 3 Seats Open On Downers Grove Park District Board (patch.com) β Residents interested in shaping Downers Grove's parks and recreation system can now pick up nomination petition packets for three open seats on the Park District Board of Commissioners, each carrying a four-year term. Packets are available weekdays at the district's Warrenville Road office, with signature gathering beginning Aug. 25 and filing scheduled for mid-November ahead of the April 6, 2027 election.

Here's a summary of the big changes ahead for the new school year (shawlocal.com) β Families in Downers Grove District 58 will see big changes this year, including sixth graders moving to Herrick and O'Neill middle schools and Grove Children's Preschool uniting at Henry Puffer. Extensive renovations added air conditioning, secure entrances, modern labs, expanded kitchens and new collaboration spaces, enabling a first-ever Kβ8 hot lunch program and freeing elementary space for arts, specialists and conferences.

Downers Grove Park District receives $3,500 ComEd grant for Lyman Woods (shawlocal.com) β Downers Grove Park District's Lyman Woods just secured a $3,500 ComEd Green Region Grant to restore habitat around Snappy's Bridge and boost pollinators like the endangered rustyβpatched bumble bee. The project will expand prairie, remove invasives, improve stormwater and water quality, and add educational signage and outdoor classroom space for school groups and volunteers. Residents can also get involved through ongoing restoration opportunities.
