1 Injured in Elgin Shooting

The shooting occurred late Wednesday night in the 1800 block of Mark Avenue in Elgin.

ELGIN, IL —Authorities in Elgin are investigating a shooting that occurred late Wednesday night in Elgin. Police responded to the scene in the 1800 block of Mark Avenue in Elgin at about 10:38 p.m. after they were notified that a 23-year-old man had been taken to a local hospital by a friend for treatment of a gunshot wound, according to an Elgin Police Department Facebook post.

The man sustained an injury that does not appear to be life-threatening, authorities said.

The Major Investigations Division is investigating the incident, according to police.

The incident Wednesday night came after police responded to several reports of sounds of gunshots in the city earlier in the day. Authorities were first notified of the sound of gunshots in the area of Center and Jefferson at 12:06 a.m. on Oct. 9. A different called said the noise sounded like fireworks and when officers arrived at the scene, they did not find any evidence of a shooting.

A short time later, at 12:10 a.m., Elgin police were notified of the sound of gunshots in the 400 block of Lawrence Ave. Officers arrived at the scene and were again unable to locate any evidence of a shooting.

Later in the morning, at 12:51 a.m., Elgin police were notified of a disturbance in the 400 block of Center Street where a subject was possibly in possession of a handgun. That person was not at the scene when officers arrived, according to a Facebook post.

Police returned to the 400 block of Center Street at 7:35 a.m. after a called reported evidence of a shooting.
