$10,000 Bond Set For Accused Elgin Car Burglar

ELGIN, IL -- A 21-year-old Chicago man has been charged in connection with a string of recent car burglaries in Elgin, police said. Officers patrolling in an area that had been hard-hit by the break-ins spotted the man looking int vehicles at about 12:59 a.m. on Aug. 22. The man, later identified as Zachary Binion, of the 4500 block of South Michigan Avenue, was arrested after officers found "proceeds from inside" one of the vehicles, according to a Facebook post on the Elgin Police Department page.
Binion has been charged with burglary, a Class 2 felony, and criminal trespass to a vehicle, a Class A misdemeanor.
Binion appeared in bond court where his bail was set at $10,000.

“Our officers are diligently working to put a stop to the burglary and car theft trend that has picked up primarily on the west side of Elgin,” Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley said. “We will continue these efforts and ask our residents to call us if they see or hear anything suspicious."
