Uber Driver Not Charged in Crash Outside Banquet Hall

STREAMWOOD, IL – Charges have not been filed against an Uber driver who crashed into a suburban banquet hall Friday night, running into and seriously injuring two people in the process, police said. Streamwood police have determined the collision at The Seville was accidental in nature and the driver was not under the influence, according to the Daily Herald.

The Uber driver crashed into a valet and a bystander outside the banquet hall in the 700 block of Barrington Avenue in Streamwood at about 8 p.m, authorities told the Daily Herald. Two people were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver "gassed it and pulled away" after being told he'd pulled onto the sidewalk outside the banquet hall, Tina McLees, a witness, said.

"...he hit the glass and pinned the valet (between the Uber car and a Jeep), ran a couple people over and then hit a bunch of cars," McLees told the Daily Herald.

The two hit by the car were taken to Amita Health St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.
