8 Bartlett Officers to be Suspended for Hazing Incident
The officers are accused of firing simulated ammunition at two other officers during a training session in Elgin in 2014.
Eight Bartlett Police Department officers will be suspended for their involvement in a hazing incident in 2014 where two officers were shot with simulated ammunition during a training exercise, according to the Daily Herald. One of the officers recently reported the June 2014 incident to a supervisor. During the training session, several officers fired the ammunition at him, which hit him in the arms and legs.
As many as 30 to 50 rounds were fired at the officers who were told to stand in the middle of a training room in Elgin, according to the article. The officer said the ammunition left a permanent paint mark on his arm and caused veins to protrude on his leg.
All involved in the training were members of the Bartlett Police Department's Specialized Police Emergency Action Response Team—a team which has since been disbanded, according to the article.
