Akintunde Eyisanmi: Thanks to ECC, I can face any challenge
December 2019 graduate and commencement speaker Akintunde Eyisanmi shares his thoughts on his experience at Elgin Community College

My two years at Elgin Community College have been a long journey. I am from Nigeria, and I came to ECC in the fall of 2017 fresh out of high school and unfamiliar with college life. As an international student, ECC provided me with the resources to guide me through my journey.
ECC has provided a solid backbone to help and guide me in achieving my academic goals. I will be transferring to Northern Illinois University in the spring to obtain my bachelor’s in economics. Not only has ECC given me a great education, I was lucky enough to receive the Dr. David and Julie Sam International Student Scholarship and the Susan Smith International Student Scholarship to help finance my education and graduate debt-free.
I also found a very warm and welcoming campus. Staff and faculty are very open-minded and accepting when it comes to cultural perspectives. Starting out in the Intensive English Program, I got to know other international students and people from different cultures. Interacting with people from different walks of life and backgrounds changed my viewpoint and understanding of things I would not have learned in the classroom.

Coming to ECC has been one of the best decisions I have made, and the years that I have spent here have prepared me for any four-year institution. I can surely say that I can face any challenge that comes my way.
