• Ex-Volleyball Coach Charged With Sexual Assault Of Minor (patch.com) — Residents should know that a former coach from the Elgin-based First Kill volleyball club has been charged with multiple counts of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving a minor he coached years ago. Kane County authorities say the investigation began in 2025, and they are asking anyone with additional information to contact the sheriff’s office as the case moves toward a July court date.
• Elias Vaagen continues turnaround season for Harvest-Westminster. The difference? ‘Totally a mindset thing.' (chicagotribune.com) — A strong outing by junior Elias Vaagen powered Harvest-Westminster’s baseball win over St. Edward in Elgin, where he doubled twice, scored three times, and drove in three runs. Despite the 15-5 loss, St. Edward’s late rally and coach Mike Aydt’s comments highlight a team still battling and believing it’s better than its record.
• Hazel Crest School District 152-5 ranks in top half of Illinois districts by enrollment in 2024-25 (southcooknews.com) — Elgin’s School District U-46 ranks second statewide by enrollment with 33,525 students, underscoring its size and influence in Illinois education. A new state report shows overall K-12 enrollment continues to decline across Illinois, even as large districts like U-46 remain major anchors in the public school system.
