DOOR COUNTY, WI — The bodies of two Illinois kayakers who went missing near Washington Island have been recovered, according to the Door County Sheriff's Office.
Recovery crews found the body of David Thalman, 20, of Dundee, at about 10:55 a.m. Monday, authorities said. A short time later, crews recovered the body of Francesca Warick, 20, of South Elgin.
The Door County Sheriff's Office took command of the incident Sunday as the operation transitioned from a search effort to a recovery mission.
Personnel from the Door County Sheriff's Office, Washington Island Police Department, Gibraltar Police Department and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources continued recovery efforts Monday in the area where the two kayakers were last known to have been, according to a news release.
Authorities did not release additional details about what led to the drownings. The incident remains under investigation by the Door County Sheriff's Office.
