Elgin Community College renames DEI office, keeps equity programs (campusreform.org) β Elgin residents should know that Elgin Community College has renamed its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion office to the Office of Institutional Success and Engagement, while keeping its equity-focused programs and resources in place. The revamped office still oversees initiatives like undocumented student support, an anti-racism library, and the college's Equity Plan, but now frames its work more broadly around student success and institutional effectiveness.

Thinking about dad gives Elgin runner inspiration for Chicago Marathon (chicagotribune.com) β An Elgin runner, Mario Hernandez Jr., is dedicating this Sunday's Chicago Marathon to his late father, whose struggle with a debilitating muscle disease inspired Mario to start running. After training on Elgin treadmills and neighborhood streets, he's now raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, with his Elgin family planning to cheer him on near the finish line.

Fort Worth approves incentives for possible $192.7M manufacturing plant (fortworthreport.org) β A major manufacturer with its U.S. headquarters in Elgin, Harting Connectivity, is weighing whether to build a $192.7 million plant and possibly move its headquarters to Fort Worth, Texas. Fort Worth just approved generous tax incentives and is competing with other locations, even as Harting has recently invested in its Elgin facilities and expanded its U.S. workforce.
