• Elgin Planning and Zoning Commission nixes proposal for 7 Brew Coffee on Summit Street (chicagotribune.com) — Elgin's Planning and Zoning Commission has rejected a proposed 7 Brew Coffee drive-through on Summit Street, citing worries about traffic and neighborhood fit despite a favorable traffic study. Neighbors raised concerns about congestion and parking, while some residents expressed enthusiasm for the chain. The City Council can still override the recommendation at a future meeting.
• Elgin's Hamilton Wings formally dissolved after 30 years serving the community (chicagotribune.com) — A longtime Elgin arts nonprofit, Hamilton Wings, has officially closed after more than 30 years of youth-focused programming, including its SCORE! opera at Elgin Community College and after-school work at Washington Elementary. Local leaders describe how founder Risé Jones' vision shaped hundreds of children, and remaining funds and materials will support an ECC arts scholarship and other community partners.
• USF focused inward against winless opponent (journalgazette.net) — This Saturday's college football matchup at Dawson Field in Elgin will see Saint Francis host winless Judson for Homecoming, but Cougars coaches insist they are treating it as a must-win test. With quarterback changes and a defense coming off a dominant performance, USF is focused on execution rather than Judson's lopsided losses and low national efficiency ranking.
