1 Charged With Attempted Murder in Stabbing: Authorities

CARPENTERSVILLE, IL — A Carpentersville man is charged with attempted murder, accused of stabbing his boss in the chest. Bail has been set at $800,000 for Juan J. Rivera, 35, in connection with the Tuesday morning attack outside Rivera’s home in the 2100 block of Tepee Avenue. Kane County prosecutors said Rivera, who worked for the victim’s roofing business, called the victim on Tuesday and asked to be paid.

The two met and Rivera allegedly stabbed the victim, who was seated in the driver’s seat of his vehicle.

“Unprovoked, Rivera reached through the car window and stabbed the victim in his left chest near his heart, as well as his right hand, using a serrated knife with a blade longer than three inches,” according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim required life-saving medical treatment and remains hospitalized, prosecutors said.

Rivera is charged with attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony; armed violence, a Class X felony; and two counts of aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony.

Rivera is next expected in court on June 26.

If he posts bond, Rivera cannot have contact with the victim or witnesses in the case, cannot consume any intoxicating substances, and must surrender his guns and Firearm Owners Identification Card.

The Elgin, East Dundee, West Dundee, Barrington Hills, Sleepy Hollow and South Barrington police departments assisted the Carpentersville Police Department in the investigation.
