ELGIN, IL — Just days after a petition with hundreds of signatures calling on the firing of Lt. Chris Jensen was submitted to the Elgin City Council, a billboard showing support for Jensen was erected in town. Jensen is the police officer responsible for firing at DeCynthia Clements following a standoff on Interstate 90 on March 12, 2018. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office has cleared Jensen, who has been placed on unpaid leave from the police department, from any wrongdoing in the death of Clements.

Elgin's police union put up the board, located just west of the National Street bridge over the Fox River in Elgin, which reads, "the members of the Police Benevolent & Protective Assocation Unit #54 proudly support Lt. Chris Jensen *274." The number 274 is Jensen's badge number, according to the Daily Herald. Jensen, a lieutenant at the time of the shooting, is not represented by the union since he is part of management, according to the Daily Herald.

Two months ago, activists requesting Jensen be fired put up a billboard of their own. Their billboard asked for justice for Clements.
