Broken Pipe Leads to Flooding at Gail Borden Library
The KidsSpace Library will be closed temporarily for repairs.

A broken pipe at the Gail Borden Library in Elgin has led to flooding and the closure of the KidSpace area, library officials said. A security officer came upon water “shooting out of the wall” at the library, 270 Grove Ave., and called the fire department and his bosses, according to the Elgin Courier-News. The library had been closed Wednesday and Thursday due to the extreme cold.
The KidsSpace has been closed since Friday. Library officials estimated the repairs, which are currently underway, could take days, according to the Elgin-Courier News.
A temporary KidSpace play area and bookshelves have been set up at the main branch. Local library users are encouraged to visit the Rakow branch and South Elgin branch for more kids materials.
