On Saturday, June 13, 2026, The Literacy Connection’s Board of Directors will be hosting a “Boss of the Toss” Charity Cornhole Tournament. The event will help raise funds to purchase resources and materials for the nonprofit organization’s literacy programs for adult learners. The tournament will be heldat the American Legion Post 57 on 820 N. Liberty Street in Elgin, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Teams of 2 people can register online at elginliteracy.org or by calling The Literacy Connection office at (847) 742-6565. Food and drink will be included in a ticket purchase. Prizes to the tournament’s top winners will be given at the end of the event, and there will be chances to enter in a 50-50 raffle as well. There are still opportunities for local businesses, organizations, and even individuals to sponsor the tournament. A sponsorship guarantees logo placement at the event and on the prizes, social media promotions on the organization’s website and Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn pages, and include food and drink tickets, bag toss items, and more.

The Literacy Connection is a 501(c)(3) organization that has been providing free, quality literacy services to adult learners in Elgin and surrounding areas since 1984. Adults can attend various programs such as Adult Volunteer Literacy which provides one-on-one tutoring or small group support, English as a Second Language classes, and conversation groups. The other main program, in partnership with the Gail Borden Public Library and Boys and Girls Club of South Elgin, is Family Literacy where adults attend ESL classes while their children participate in Boys and Girls Club activities. Family Literacy also promotes parenting education workshops, interactive literacy activities, and library services. The agency relies on grant funding from the Illinois Secretary of State’s Literacy Office, local government, and private foundations, and the support of dedicated volunteer tutors, an active and engaged board of directors, and a staff of five talented individuals to uphold its mission.

A team ticket costs $100 (and include entry into the tournament as well as food and drink). A spectator ticket costs $30 and guarantees a food and drink ticket. Interested participants can go online to elginliteracy.org to register, purchase a sponsorship, or make a donation. You can also email: requestinfo@elginliteracy.org for more information.
