Side Street Studio Arts, in conjunction with the City of Elgin and the Downtown Neighborhood Association, announces the third annual AREA 22: Arts, Crafts, & Oddities Fair on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 1–7 p.m. on Riverside Drive in downtown Elgin.

Now in its third year, AREA 22 brings together fine art, handmade goods, and the strange, curious, and unexpected for one unforgettable summer afternoon along the Fox River. The outdoor fair will feature a juried lineup of artist-vendors exhibiting and selling their work, live art and sculpture-making, music and entertainment, local food and beverages, and creative experiences for all ages.

Free admission. Free parking. Rain or shine.

“AREA 22 is where downtown Elgin gets weird, wonderful, and wildly creative for the day,” said Side Street Studio Arts co-Founder and Executive Director Tanner Melvin. “It is a full-on celebration of artists, makers, collectors, families, and curious people who want to discover something they have never seen before. Come ready to shop, explore, make things, and leave with a story.”

AREA 22 will also include the unveiling of Elgin’s America 250 public artwork, a permanent sculpture inspired by young Elgin artist Nathan Adeosun’s hopeful vision of a future America rooted in diversity, compassion, creativity, and shared purpose.

“As we build toward our future home at 62 S. Grove Ave., hosting an event right at our back door on Riverside Drive makes perfect sense,” said Melvin. “AREA 22 is an opportunity to celebrate the artists, small businesses, community partners, and creative energy that make downtown Elgin such a special place. We are especially proud to unveil Nathan Adeosun’s America 250 sculpture during the fair—a powerful reminder that young people in our community are already imagining and shaping a more hopeful future.”

Visitors can explore original artwork, handmade crafts, oddities, and one-of-a-kind finds while enjoying food and drinks from local vendors. AREA 22 is designed for seasoned collectors, first-time art buyers, families, curious passersby, and anyone looking for a distinctly Elgin way to spend a summer Saturday.

Side Street Studio Arts advances engagement in the arts by providing inclusive access to exhibition, performance, education, and advocacy resources, because art is important.
