Domestic Abuser Gets 10 Years In Prison
The Elgin man was free on bail for two unrelated domestic batteries when he punched his ex-girlfriend in the face, prosecutors said.

ELGIN, IL – An Elgin man who punched his ex-girlfriend in the face while being free on bond for two unrelated domestic battery offenses has been sentenced to 10 years in prison, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office news release. James R. Williams, 39, of the 300 block of Percy Street in Elgin, was sentenced Friday after a jury convicted him in late April to three counts of aggravated battery, class 3 felonies.
The charges stemmed from a March 13 incident where Williams was with his former girlfriend in the lobby of a hotel in the 400 block of Airport Road in Elgin when the two got into an argument. Williams punched the woman in the face. The woman suffered a split lip and a black eye, according to a news release.
Williams was free on bond at the time for two unrelated domestic battery offenses, police said. Williams was eligible for extended term sentencing because of prior felony convictions, which include attempted murder and aggravated battery.
