Duplex Uninhabitable Following Weekend Fire

The fire in Elgin broke out Saturday evening and caused damage to two nearby homes, fire officials.

ELGIN, IL -- The cause of a fire that broke out in the garage at a duplex Saturday remains under investigation, fire officials said. The Elgin Fire Department was called to the duplex in the 500 block of Thorndale Drive just before 8 p.m. for a report of fire coming from the garage of a home. Responding fire departments found a split level duplex with the entire back of the home on fire and fire burning through the roof, according to a news release.

The fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes.

The fire lead to minor damage to two other homes in the area, according to authorities. The occupants of the duplex were not home at the time of the fire and no one was injured in the blaze.

The duplex is currently uninhabitable due to damage from the fire.
