ECC’s fall commencement to be held Dec. 14

Elgin Community College will hold two commencement ceremonies for the fall 2019 graduating class on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Elgin Community College will hold two commencement ceremonies for the fall 2019 graduating class on Saturday, Dec. 14. Both ceremonies will be held in the Building J Events Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. Students are assigned to the graduation ceremony based on the credential being earned.

A ceremony for career and technical programs (associate of applied science degrees, vocational specialist certificates, and basic vocational specialist certificates) will be held at 10 a.m.

A ceremony for university transfer degrees (associate in arts, associate in science, associate in fine arts-visual art emphasis, associate in fine arts-music performance emphasis, associate in engineering science and associate in liberal studies) will be held at 2 p.m.

This year’s student speakers are Manuel Estrada of Elgin for the career and technical programs ceremony and Akintunde Eyisanmi of Nigeria for the university transfer degrees ceremony. The commencement address for both ceremonies will be given by ECC President David Sam, PhD, JD, LLM. Chair of the Board of Trustees, Donna Redmer, will also give remarks during the ceremonies.

Guests do not need tickets for admission to the ceremonies and there will be open seating. The doors will open one hour prior to the start of each ceremony. Both ceremonies will also be streamed live on ECC’s Facebook page.
