ECC’s student newspaper, the Observer, wins 2nd place award
At the Illinois Community College Journalism Association conference, ECC's student newspaper, Observer, won second place for best in show.

At the Illinois Community College Journalism Association conference held Friday, Oct. 4, the Elgin Community College student newspaper, Observer, won second place in the John H. Ryan Best in Show competition for the May 13 issue. This annual award recognizes the best single print issues published during the spring semester among all community colleges in Illinois.
“We had a great staff last spring, and everyone worked really hard on every issue,” said current editor-in-chief Camryn Cutinello. “It’s nice to be recognized, but we don’t do this for the awards.”
The fall 2019 Observer staff have already produced two print editions, which can be found on rack around campus. The newspaper regularly publishes news stories, interviews, and opinion pieces online at elginobserver.com.

“The website is a great way for the community to stay up-to-date on what’s happening at ECC and issues that matter to students,” said Nick Obradovich, faculty adviser.
The Observer publishes six print issues per semester. Stories are added weekly to the website and on Facebook and Twitter at ECC_Observer. The newspaper is a member of the Illinois Community College Journalism Association (ICCJA) and the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP).
