Elgin City Council OKs Plan to Lease Land for $1 Per Year to Charter School
If plans move forward, the nonprofit Elgin Math and Science Academy could open in fall 2018.

ELGIN, IL - A group planning to open a charter school for elementary and middle school students got approval from the Elgin City Council to lease city-owned land for $1 per year.
The Daily Herald reports:
The nonprofit Elgin Math and Science Academy would open in fall 2018 at 1600 Dundee. Ave. -- on the site of the former Fox River Country Day School -- with 200 students in kindergarten through third grade. It would gradually expand to 450 students through eighth grade.
Elgin Area School District U-46 is expected to decide in April whether to approve an application from Elgin Charter School Initiative for the new charter school, which is planning to lease six buildings and pay for necessary repairs, according to the article.
