Elgin Fire Department Receives Donations For Smoke Detectors
Fire crews will install the smoke detectors in residential buildings that have no working detectors.

ELGIN, IL - From The Elgin Fire Department: The Elgin Fire Department recently received a $500 donation from the owners of the new Dunkin Donuts located at 1169 Dundee Avenue. This donation was intended to assist the fire department with fire prevention initiatives. The fire department has already earmarked this donation for the purchase of smoke detectors. In conjunction with this donation Blain’s Farm and Fleet contributed an additional $300 donation as well as discounted pricing for the purchase of combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Ziegler’s Ace Hardware also is providing discounted pricing for combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as well as standard smoke detectors.
The Elgin Fire Department distributes and installs smoke detectors in residential buildings that have no functioning smoke detectors. Neighborhoods that are targeted for this program are those that have had a structure fire occur within the immediate area. Other neighborhoods are chosen at random or based on information indicating there are homes in need of detectors. Smoke detectors for the program are either purchased by the Elgin Fire Department or obtained from the American Red Cross and the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal as part of a competitive grant program.
