Elgin Home Uninhabitable Following Fire

ELGIN, IL – An Elgin home has been deemed uninhabitable following a house fire in Elgin Thursday afternoon. The blaze was reported at 12:57 p.m. by residents as they exited the burning single-family, ranch-style home in the 200 block of South Clifton Avenue. Fire crews first at the scene found smoke coming from the eaves and the attached garage area.

Firefighters found a working fire in the kitchen and were able to bring the blaze under control within 10 minutes, according to a news release from the Elgin Fire Department.

No one was injured in the fire. The blaze caused an estimated $80,000 in loss to the home and contents. City officials deemed the home uninhabitable due to fire and smoke damage, according to the news release.

The displaced family will be staying with family members, fire officials said.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
