ELGIN, IL — A 23-year-old Elgin man is accused of making a threat about a school shooting over social media. Miguel Soto, of the 400 block of Miller Street in Elgin, is charged with one count of threat to school, building/person, a Class 4 felony, in connection with the May 8 incident, police said. Local authorities launched an investigation after receiving a report of a possible school shooting threat from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, according to a post on the Elgin Police Department Facebook page.

The threat was generalized and not specific to a particular school in the Elgin area, police said.

Soto was pinpointed as the person who sent the message, according to authorities. He was located and taken into custody without incident.
