Elgin Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Woman He Offered Ride Home from Bar

The woman fell asleep and woke up to the man sexually assaulting her in the crew cab of a Ford Truck, police said.

COOK COUNTY, IL - The woman fell asleep in the vehicle and woke up to the man sexually assaulting her in the crew cab of a Ford truck.

A 40-year-old Elgin man accused of sexually assaulting a woman after she fell asleep while he and a friend drove her home from a bar has been arrested.

Fernando Godinez-Monjaras of Elgin, 40, has been charged with criminal sexual assault and is free from jail after he posted 10 percent of his $20,000 bond.

Godinez-Monjaras is accused of sexually assaulting a 33-year-old woman in the crew cab of a Ford truck as she slept on Aug. 12. The attack occurred after the woman accepted a ride home from a bar from two men and then fell asleep in the vehicle. She woke to one of the men sexually assaulting her, according to a news release from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman fought her attacker. When she attempted to call 911, her attacker threw her phone out the vehicle’s window, police said.

She was forced out of the vehicle shortly after that, according to the news release. The woman fled to a residence in the 31W100 block of Rohrssen Road in Hanover Park where she knocked on the door, woke up the residents living there and called 911.

The victim was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates where she was treatedf or minor injuries and where a criminal sexual assault kit was performed. During the investigation, Sheriff’s office detectives identified the offender as Fernando Godinez, according to a news release.
