Elgin Man Gets Prison Time for 2018 Home Invasion
Tyrell Sumling will spend 13.5 years in prison. He was sentenced in Kane County on Wednesday.
ELGIN, IL —An Elgin man will go to prison for threatening a man with a dangerous weapon in the man’s home in 2018. Tyrell D. Sumling, 31, of the 600 block Center Street in Elgin, has been sentenced to 13.5 years in prision after pleading guilty to home invasion, a Class X felony, prosecutors said.
Sumling was "armed with a dangerous weapon" when he entered a home in the 1 to 99 block of North Edison Avenue in Elgin on May 29, 2018, and threatened to harm a resident, according to a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.
Sumling received 426 days of credit for time he has already served at the Kane County jail. He has been in custody since his arrest and held on a $750,000 bail.
